Preparing for the Next Chapter: Electing ICOM’s Nominations and Election Committee (NEC)

As we look ahead to the upcoming election of ICOM’s Executive Board for the 2025-2028 term, a vital process begins to unfold.

At the heart of this journey is the Nominations and Election Committee (NEC), a dedicated Committee tasked with ensuring that the path to leadership is fair, transparent, and representative of ICOM’s diverse membership. The Call for applications for Chair or ordinary member of the NECis now open for ICOM members, from 10 July to 10 September. 

The Role of the NEC: Guardians of Fairness and Transparency 

NEC is the guardian of ICOM’s democratic values. This group is entrusted with the critical responsibility of overseeing the entire election process, from validating candidates to confirming the final results. As per its mandate, the NEC ensures that each step of the election is conducted in strict accordance with ICOM’s Statutes and Internal Rules, safeguarding the integrity of the Organisation. 

As the election period approaches, the Nominations and Election Committee will work diligently to review and validate the candidacies of those who wish to serve on the ICOM Executive Board. Its role is to ensure that all candidates meet the necessary criteria and are committed to furthering ICOM’s mission. This meticulous process is key to ensuring that the voices of ICOM Members are heard and that the leadership reflects the Organisation’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity. 

The ICOM Executive Board: Leading ICOM’s objectives and mission 

The ICOM Executive Board plays a pivotal role in guiding ICOM’s objectives and mission, ensuring that the Organisation’s activities align with its Strategic Plan, and representing the interests of the museum community worldwide. Composed of experienced museum professionals from diverse backgrounds, the ICOM Executive Board brings together a wealth of knowledge and perspectives. 

The EB’s work is collaborative, involving close coordination with all ICOM Bodies, including National and International Committees, Regional Alliances, and Affiliated Organisations. This collective effort is supported by the ICOM Secretariat, which provides the necessary administrative and operational assistance to ensure that the Board’s initiatives are successfully implemented. 

A Transparent and Inclusive Process 

Transparency is at the core of the NEC’s mission. By overseeing the election process with a rigorous commitment to fairness, the NEC ensures that all ICOM Members have confidence in the outcome. The NEC will monitor the election process, certify the results, and will report to the Chairperson of the Advisory Council..

The Nominations and Election Committee is now inviting all ICOM Members in good standing to join this important mission. If you are passionate about ensuring a fair and inclusive election, we encourage you to apply to joint the NEC. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of ICOM by taking part of the ICOM Executive Board elections process.
